Dr. Ramraksha Pandey, also known as “Guru ji”, who himself was an idol of diligence and an ideal for others, was born at Chauradigar Village in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. His parents were Shri Phuleshwar Pandey and Smt. Sumitra Devi. He did his high school from Pava Nagar Mahavir Inter College, Fazil Nagar in 1954 and passed his Intermediate exams form U.N.K. Inter College, Padravna in 1956. He had a special interest in language, literature, astrology and psychology while completing his higher education from Gorakhpur University, he did M.A. in Sanskrit and got the degree of Ph.D. in the same. He got many degrees with his diligence and dedication. He got Junior Teacher Certificate in 1960, Licentiate in Teaching (L.T.) in 1970 and achieved diploma in Telugu language in 1976. He received the little of ‘Shastri’ in 1969 and ‘Acharya’ in 1972 in traditional Sanskrit from Sampoornanand Sanskrit University, Kashi.
From higher education to the service of teacher, he chose Gorakhpur as his workplace. In starting, he took change of the teacher of Sanskrit at DAV Inter College in 1963 and when D.A.V Degree College was established in 1973, he served as an Asst. Prof. of Sanskrit and got retired while working as an Associate Professor in 1990. His teaching life was highly disciplined, attractive and inspiring as well. But this period shows only one aspect of his life because after this period only, he proved the real meaning of his life and existence.
During his service, Guru ji felt the lack of an institution dedicated to girl child education in Gorakhpur and along with this, he also felt that many parents were unable to provide higher education to their girl children. To Fulfill this social need, the Foundation stone of Chandrakanti Ramawati Devi Arya Mahila P.G. College was laid by the inspiration of his wife Smt. Chandrakanti Devi and his mother-in-law Smt. Ramawati Devi in 1990, which got the distinction of being the first women college in Gorakhpur.
Guru ji was a patron of Indian civilization, tradition & Aryan culture. He was inspired by the ideas and principles of Swami Vivekanand towards Women’s education and culture. Guru ji established this college on the basis of the principles of Arya Samaj. Women’s upliftment and self-dependence have been the ultimate goals and objectives of this college for which he dedicated all his life and by deciding women empowerment as his ultimate goal, he sacrificed all the comforts and ease of life and spent his life as a hermit and ascetic human being. He recognized Indian culture well and engaged himself in its promotion and refinement with full vigor and confidence. He also enriched the area of Sanskrit writing by contributing many books written by him. His reviews on kiratorjuniyam, Neetishatakam and shishupalvadham.
In 1989, he was awarded the World Sanskrit Foundation Award. His verse Composed on Swami Vivekanand has been sent to UNESCO by Vevekanand Centre. He had been awarded the Purvanchal Gaurav Award. He has been distinguished as ‘Malviya of Gorakhpur’ for the greatest effort of establishing this college with public support. The college, transformed into reality form his dream, is constantly trying to fulfill his resolution.
